In 2020, Jefferson Elementary was named a National Blue Ribbon School. The prestigious National Blue Ribbon Schools award affirms the hard work of educators, families, and communities in creating safe and welcoming schools where students master challenging and engaging content.
Jefferson is a neighborhood school within the Little Rock Public School District built in 1949. Home of the Patriots, Jefferson Elementary has strong ties to its community and is committed both to the growth and happiness of students. Because of these commitments, staff and students alike arrive at Jefferson eager to teach and to learn.
“While the environment is positive and caring at Jefferson, there are high expectations for academics and behavior,” said Jefferson Elementary Principal Sandra Register. “Growth and achievements are regularly acknowledged, and Jefferson is not only recognized as a high-performing school, but has consistent growth from year to year.”
The National Blue Ribbon Schools recognition is based on overall academic performance or progress in closing achievement gaps among student subgroups. Jefferson received the National Blue Ribbon School designation in the Exemplary High Performing Schools category. These are among a state’s highest performing schools as measured by state assessments or nationally normed tests.
Jefferson has an extremely supportive parent-teacher organization that solidifies community involvement and supports the school’s staff and teachers. For these reasons and more, Jefferson Elementary has developed a reputation for academic success within a progressive learning environment where students and their parents are proud to be Patriots.
